The SMDC offers a challenging and rewarding work environment located in a state-of-the-art facility at the new UCSF Mission Bay campus.
A Specialist position is available at the Small Molecule Discovery Center (SMDC) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (Mission Bay Campus). The SMDC includes an existing high-throughput screening (HTS) center and a chemistry lead-optimization group. The SMDC is currently developing capabilities in fragment discovery and siRNA-based screening and building a grant-supported group focused on drug-discovery research.
The successful candidate will manage the HTS facility with the possibility of managing the fragment discovery and/or siRNA activities. The candidate will oversee the daily operations of the screening center. Responsibilities include managing personnel, purchasing and maintaining equipment, curating the compound libraries, managing budgets, and collaborating with the users of the HTS facility.

A postdoctoral position is available at the Small Molecule Discovery Center (SMDC) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (Mission Bay Campus). The SMDC includes an existing high-throughput screening (HTS) center and a chemistry lead-optimization group. The SMDC is currently developing capabilities in fragment discovery and building a grant-supported group focused on drug-discovery research.
We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to develop fragment-based screening technology. This work requires strong knowledge of protein chemistry and biophysics. Techniques will include protein expression, high-throughput surface Plasmon resonance, other biophysical tools such as analytical ultracentrifugation or calorimetry, and structural tools such as NMR and x-ray crystallography. Research will be highly collaborative with other members of the SMDC and research groups throughout UCSF.
Required Qualifications
The incumbent must have 3+ years experience with protein
chemistry, biophysics, or structural biology and a Ph.D.
in a relevant field of chemistry or biology. Desire and
ability to engage in team-based research and collaboration
is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with some biophysical methods such as surface
plasmon resonance, analytical ultracentrifugation, NMR, or
X-ray crystallography is required; other techniques will be
learned through the position. The University of California
seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or
community service has prepared them to contribute to our
commitment to diversity and excellence.
